How does the yellow color becomes completely different in its color intensity when compared to different background colors.

On a white background, primary yellow will appear somewhat less intense – white is the ultimate in saturation – but on a black background, the same yellow will become extremely intense. Against a middle value of gray, the yellow will decreases in saturation unless the surrounding value (darkness or lightness) is similar.
